Panambur Beach

On the western side of Mangalore city lies the beach front of the city. I roughly stretches up to 30 kms within the city limits. This section of the city is filled with lot of major industries and a major busy port. As on date that section of the city is undergoing major development work in terms of flyovers, industries, four-laned roads etc. Since place this area of Mangalore never failed to create a feeling of awe whenever i visited this place. Even today i get this same feeling of awe whenever i pass by. But more than anything else its the Panambur beach which never fails to make me happy, contemplative and then forget everything and live for the moment. This beach is one amongst the many beautiful clean in coastal region

Sunset at the Panambur Beach
Panambur beach is quite close to the Mangalore port. From the sea one can get a good view of ships entering and leaving the port.  In order to increase the dept of the beach towards the port side for the ships to sail, there are huge stone boulders which are placed in he sea. These stone boulders extend to almost 1 km into the sea side from the beach. This is an added attraction here. But above all this beach is quite a clean one.

There is a strong awareness amongst the citizens of this city to keep the beaches clean. They has always being pressurising the city corporation to keep the beach clean and tidy. The corporation too has been quite responsive and have hired dedicated staff for this purpose. The litter is regularly picked up by the staff and thus the beach is kept clean.

This beach attracts people all over Karnataka. In fact at a given time one can find more tourist from other parts of the state than the local people. Because of this one can see many food stalls at the beach side selling food and other refreshments to these tourists.

The only negative aspects of this beach has been deaths
due to to drowning. Every year we have an average of 5-6 deaths taking place due to drowning and most of the people who die are tourist. Locals who are aware about the way the sea behaves know when the sea is dangerous and

Life guard at the beach
when it is safe. Recently a life guard was appointed at the beach. He is supposed to warn people against venturing into the sea. In fact the owners of the stalls too warn people when its unsafe to venture into the sea. But exited tourist who have travelled far ignore these warnings and still venture into the sea.  Its up the skill of the life guard to prevent unwanted incidents from happening.

But for me whatever may be the case, this beach will never fail to inspire awe in my heart and will continue to make me feel good and happy.  I sign off now hoping the development will not touch this beach and spoil it or crowd it as it has happened in Mumbai or Goa.
